The title and subject for this article came to mind the other day while I was listening to The Tucker Carlson Show podcast with guests Calley and Casey Means. The Means have been doing the podcast circuit with the likes of the Rogan, Huberman and RFK podcasts. If you haven’t heard of them, look them up. Casey Means is a Stanford University trained surgeon who felt compromised by the health-care system she was joining, believing that instead of healing people the system was actually making people sick. The belief compelled her enough to quit and embark on a plan to change things. Calley Means, her brother, is a Stanford and Harvard graduate and former food and pharmaceutical consultant and lobbyist. He joined his sister believing the system was rigged in favor of big food and pharma after working in the industries after graduation. Together, they’ve written a new book published in May 2024 called Good Energy. When listening to these two individuals talk, who I’d never heard of before, I was intrigued but I couldn’t help ask myself, “How do we live?”

I’d heard much, like I think most of us have, about the mess of the healthcare system and the desire for profits over service. But I’ve also thought for years good nutrition and non-drug remedies were a healthier way to live anyway. I was raised that way. Like most people I know, however, I don’t like getting sick and when I am, prescription medication is sometimes necessary to fight the illness. But my first defence is trying to eat well and let my body do battle against an invading bug. Prescription medication is not a first defence but rather a last.
