This past week I was back again watching a lecture by Oxford mathematician Dr. John Lennox who I hope to eventually get on my Better Than Not podcast. He was speaking about the Gospel of John, how the Word Became Flesh, which titles John 1:1-18 in the EVS version the Bible. I was intrigued by the subject of this lecture because in a previous article “The Word(s),” I had written about Lennox’s supposition that the end of materialism was near with science announcing information and data as the third fundamental entity alongside energy and matter. Lennox had referred to John 1:1 that begins with, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” He here related “the Word” and “the Word was God” to information being that fundamental quantity from which the universe started. I was watching his lecture, interested in how Dr. Lennox was going to further explain this idea and the end of materialism. But I got caught up in something else he said, which I thought needed to come first, and thus evolved into this article. Dr. Lennox said in speaking of the works of the law, “The law with all its divine necessity of exposing our sins could never cure it.” The works of the law told us how we sinned but did little to nothing to help us not to. I couldn’t let it go as you’ll see.

A while back I wrote about Apostle Paul in “The Great Second Chance” and “Justified By Faith.” I wrote about a couple of things Paul had written in Galatians that I found quite profound. The first was Galatians 2:16, “a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.” The second was in Galatians 3:10, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”
